A Splash of GREEN

Long before travellers began exploring these mountains, our family was simply farming here.
In the rugged high-altitude landscape on the route between Manali and Spiti Valley, we slowly began shaping the land. In a terrain known more for rock and wind than greenery, we planted trees, built small access roads, and worked the land year after year.
Over time, more than 100,000 trees were planted, transforming this harsh alpine terrain into one of the greenest pockets along the route to the high Himalaya. With the trees came life — birds, wildlife, and a growing natural ecosystem in the middle of an otherwise rugged landscape.
For many years we remained farmers. But as travellers began venturing toward Chandratal Lake and trekkers crossed the famous Hampta Pass Trek, our land naturally became a stopping point along the journey.
Trekkers arrived tired after long days in the mountains, travellers paused before heading deeper into the high Himalaya, and many simply stayed to experience the silence of a place far from busy tourist towns.

In 2020, we opened our farms to travellers and created XHIMALAYA — a remote Himalayan basecamp where explorers could rest, reset, and experience the raw beauty of the mountains.
Located about an hour from Manali, XHIMALAYA sits at the threshold of the high Himalaya — a place where green valleys slowly give way to the dramatic landscapes leading toward Chandertal and Spiti.
Life here still follows the rhythm of the mountains. The village is not electrified, and power is generated locally to ensure comfort for our guests. Every supply travels through challenging terrain, reminding us that living in the Himalaya always requires effort and respect for nature.
